The Soul is Eternal

Description

Many years ago, when I was but a lad of seven, I grasped the full concept of life and death when the first family cat passed away. I realized that the same thing happens to every living creature... including family. I was not ready to accept the fact that I would have to face the world without my parents someday... the thought of it brought a searing fright to my heart. When I confronted father about my fear of the inevitable... he smiled and gave me words of comfort.

He said to me: "Flesh is mortal, but the soul is eternal. Indeed my time will come... your mother's time will come... and yes you may feel very much alone in the world. But you must know that while our bodies may fade out of existence we are not truly gone. Our souls will live on and dwell in a place of unending happiness. And as long as your faith and love are strong... you will never truly be alone."

Fifty years later, my elven mother had many more years to go, but father did not. I never doubted for a moment that his soul was alive and somewhere safe. But when days turned into weeks, weeks into months, months into decades, and decades into a century... I grew tired of looking to the heavens for signs of his presence.

But then, one night, I was met with the surprise of my life.

"All these years, Ethaniel...you were looking to the heavens for me..." said the specter as he emerged from the Void. The details of his face were hard to make out... but that voice...is unmistakable. "...when all you had to do was look within. Because of the love we share, as father and son, our souls are bonded forever."

A warrior seasoned by the brutal winters of Skyrim and the experience of war --unblinking, unwavering, and unshakable in the presence of the most demoralizing foe-- finds himself on his knees, breathless and on the verge of tears when he beholds the sight of the father he lost more than a hundred years ago. I couldn't understand it... I thought at first it was Astrid's cruel trickery. It was an illusion! But no... it was not!
"Part of my soul has been with you forever. Whispers in the heart and the unexplainable feelings of comfort during troubling times... that was me, my son. And now, by the powers of the Void, I can be physically at your side when you call."

I never did forget him. Although I grew uncertain about ever seeing him again until I perished, I carried him with me in my heart and mind and because of that his realm is extended beyond the spiritual plain.

Indeed... the soul is eternal... and love ensures that the part of them that counts will stay with you for just as long.

YAY! I haven't been this happy about a Father and Son reunion since Knuckles and Locke ^^ Eeee!
